A Rosie Place for Children in South Bend, IN, the first (and only) specialty hospital in Indiana, serving all 92 counties, exclusively supporting medically fragile children and their families by providing highly equipped hospital care for the most complex pediatric conditions in a home-away-from-home environment. During its 14-year history, A Rosie Place for Children has actively encouraged self-care for families beyond just “taking a break” and focuses on living and quality of life for children who are medically fragile. The number of families served at A Rosie Place for Children grows each year and 184 “sleepovers” ranging from one to ten nights were hosted last year! Families that are served by the respite program return again and again knowing their child is loved and receives exceptional skilled nursing care. A Rosie Place also offers quarterly events called HAVEN (Here and Visible––Educational Networking), bringing families together for the purpose of “engaging and empowering the community of families caring for children who are medically fragile,” by supporting parent-to-parent relationships and informal support systems.
