Child Care Aware® of America Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) Respite Care
Arlington, Virginia (serve military families nationally)
Innovative and Exemplary (2019):
Child Care Aware® of America Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) Respite Care in Arlington, VA, provides respite care to eligible families in the Navy, Air Force, and Space Force. They have been serving military families across the country who have children birth through 18 years with special needs for nearly 20 yeas years with high-quality, in-home childcare. Finding and paying for high-quality childcare for children with special needs presents significant challenges for military parents who are often away from their families’ support. Through EFMP Respite Care, eligible parents are helped to interview with and select from a pool of appropriately trained and screened providers who are matched to meet the special needs of the family. Care providers receive continuous training and mentoring geared to the special circumstances of the children in their care, and provided by local agencies near military. The local agencies work with families to find the providers who best match the special needs of the children.
Programs are initially reviewed after three years to assess continued status as Innovative and Exemplary, and every five years thereafter. Following their second review, recognition of Child Care Aware® of America Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) Respite Care as Innovative and Exemplary was extended to January 1, 2031.
