House Scraps Bipartisan Agreement on Continuing Resolution. Lifespan Respite Care and Older Americans Act Reauthorizations are at risk!

Legislative Alert

Urgent action needed to keep these important provisions from being dropped from the final bill!

Yesterday, we wrote to you with great excitement that bipartisan House and Senate leadership released final legislative language for the must-pass Continuing Resolution that included Senate Lifespan Respite Reauthorization language that extends the program for five years through FY 2029 and expands eligibility to young caregivers i

In addition, the Older Americans Act Reauthorization and the extension of the RAISE Family Caregivers Act were included as well!!

Then, last night we learned that the programs are at risk! All of these provisions could be dropped from the final year end funding package.

TAKE ACTION NOW!!

CONTACT your Representatives and Senators NOW and urge them to pass a bipartisan Continuing Resolution that includes the Lifespan Respite Care Program and the Older American Act Reauthorizations!

Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask for your Senator’s or Representative’s office. When connected ask for health or disability staff. If you don’t reach them, leave a message!

Post on social media and be sure to tag your House member and Senators!

Message:

  • Make sure that the Lifespan Respite Care Reauthorization is included in a bipartisan year-end funding package to ensure continuous support for the nation’s family caregivers who care for children and adults across the lifespan.
  • Consensus was already achieved! @SpeakerJohnson @RepJeffries @SenSchumer @LeaderMcConnell made sure to include extensions of the Lifespan Respite Care Program, the Older Americans Act programs, and the RAISE Family Caregivers Act in their original agreement!
  • The Lifespan Respite Care Program perfectly aligns with the goals of the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers, calling for a range of respite options and an emphasis on respite to allow family caregivers to obtain respite services that meet their unique needs. Ensure the program is extended by including it in the final agreement on the Continuing Resolution!
