Respite in the Faith Community
Doris Green with the New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition presented on the Respite Revival held by the coalition last summer that brought faith communities in NY together to learn more about volunteer respite opportunities. Daphne Johnston, Founder and Director of the Respite Ministry, housed at First United Methodist Church in Montgomery, AL discussed their faith-based respite program that uses volunteers to provide respite for individuals with memory loss. This model has been replicated across Alabama and in multiple states. Daphne also is Founder and Director of the Respite for All Foundation that helps congregations replicate the respite model for a fee for materials and training.
