Consumer Directed Respite: Decades of Experience from the Family Caregiver Alliance and California Caregiver Resource Centers
Kathy Kelly, Executive Director, and Christina Irving, Clinical Services Director at the Family Caregiver Alliance in San Francisco provided an overview of long-running consumer-directed respite services offered by California’s Caregiver Resource Centers, including the Family Caregiver Alliance, and their impact on family caregivers. They also discussed how the program works, challenges and advantages, and how the program streamlines access to respite care for family caregivers.
They shared a resource designed for professionals who work with and support family caregivers. The online course, Improving Practice: Working with Diverse Family Caregivers, explores the challenges of diverse family caregivers and discusses practice changes to better support them.
