UPDATE Take Urgent Action Now: House Set to Consider Billions in Cuts to Medicaid and SNAP This Week

QUICK READ
- The full House could vote on the budget reconciliation bill as early as Thursday of this week.
- Late Sunday night, the House Budget Committee passed the budget reconciliation package that includes more than $700 billion in Medicaid cuts and $300 billion in cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The next step is the Rules Committee which will start markup at 1 AM on Wednesday. More drastic cuts are likely to be proposed by the Freedom Caucus members in the Rules Committee. Speaker Johnson announced that he hopes to see a floor vote by Thursday.
- It is now even more critical to weigh in THIS WEEK, but especially today and tomorrow (5/19 and 5/20), with the House and voice opposition to proposals that could result in 10 million people losing Medicaid coverage and millions more going uninsured. Action 1. Join Sign on Letter to Oppose Medicaid Cuts
Sign on your national, state, or local organization to this letter from the Consortium for Constituents with Disabilities (CCD). The National Respite Coalition is a long-time member of CCD.
The deadline for signing the letter has been extended to END OF DAY (ET), on Monday, May 19.
The letter describes provisions that harm older adults, people with disabilities, and their caregivers, discusses new draconian work requirements for Medicaid, and lays out the consequences of freezing provider taxes on home and community-based services.
