Policy Update

Members of Congress should cosponsor the Lifespan Respite Reauthorization Act and Urge Swift Passage before the End of the Year!

Thank you for your continued advocacy for the Lifespan Respite Care Program.

Family caregivers urgently need our support. The Older Americans Act must be reauthorized, Medicaid protections require constant vigilance, and caregivers need meaningful financial relief through tax credits and paid leave. Protecting and strengthening the Lifespan Respite Care Program depends on reauthorization—and the stakes have never been higher.

As members of the Respite Network and long-time champions of this program, the National Respite Coalition needs your help now. The Lifespan Respite Reauthorization Act (S. 830/H.R. 2560) has strong bipartisan backing and endorsements from 39 national organizations, but House and Senate floor action will remain out of reach without more Congressional cosponsors and sustained grassroots advocacy.

Your voice can make the difference.

TAKE ACTION NOW: Grassroots pressure is the single most powerful way to protect and grow funding for Lifespan Respite and other vital caregiver supports.

Call 202-225-3121 and ask for your Representative’s or Senator’s office. Request to speak with the health, disability, or appropriations staff—or leave a message if they’re unavailable. Find additional contact information for House Members and Senators.

YOUR MESSAGE:

Please cosponsor the Lifespan Respite Reauthorization Act (S. 830/HR 2560) and support swift passage.

Lifespan Respite and family caregiver support programs are critical safety nets for millions of caregivers who may soon lose Medicaid coverage. Among our nation’s 63 million caregivers, more than one in three say respite is their top service need. Strengthening the Lifespan Respite Care Program directly supports the goals of ACL’s National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers, which calls for a full range of respite options that meet real-world needs.

Make it personal: Share your own caregiving or respite story and why caregivers in your state urgently need access to respite care.

Post your message on social media and be sure to tag your House member and Senators! Find official X handles of House Members. Social media pages can be found by visiting your Member’s website.
